“The desire of knowledge, like the thirst for riches, increases ever with the acquisition of it.”

– Laurence Sterne

Throughout my studies, I have realized how important it is to learn as much about business operations as possible. Despite my bias as a Commerce student, I believe being knowledgeable about how businesses operate helps one to understand how the engine that drives the world’s economies works.

Whether you have interests in science, engineering, the government, or simply products and services, you will likely be working with a business. Businesses drive most of the products and services that we, as consumers, want and need. As you are reading this blog, you are likely on a computer that was created by a business and purchasing internet access from a business. Almost everything that you use in your everyday life was created by a business.

Carleton’s Commerce program has helped prepare me for the working world by giving me the opportunity to explore how businesses function and communicate with the world. The Commerce program has also taught me how to be more confident. Prior to university, my presentation and professionalism skills were definitely lacking. While I still have room for improvement in these areas, I am now much more confident when presenting my ideas.

Carleton’s Commerce program was the best choice of study for me because it allowed me to explore a variety of fields and learn many different things. Business acumen is valuable in every job and even if you don’t choose it as your major, it should still be something you desire to learn.

Thanks for reading and best of luck!

Anthony
